It is derived from L-glutamic acid (a naturally occurring amino acid) and acetic acid. It belongs to a newer generation of chelators designed to replace less biodegradable options like EDTA.

What it does:

Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate (GLDA) is a highly effective, environmentally friendly chelating agent. Its primary function is singular but critical:

Chelation: It binds to and neutralizes metal ions (such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and copper) present in water and raw materials. These metal ions are problematic because they can:

Catalyze oxidation: Degrading sensitive ingredients like Vitamin C, natural oils, and antioxidants, causing discoloration and loss of efficacy.

Destabilize emulsions: Interfering with emulsifiers and causing creams and lotions to separate.

Reduce preservative efficacy: Certain metal ions can inhibit the performance of preservative systems.

Cause unsightly precipitates: Leading to sediment or cloudiness in clear formulas.

Why we use it:

We choose Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate as a high-performance alternative to conventional chelators. Unlike traditional chelators like EDTA, TGD is readily biodegradable, breaking down quickly in the environment.

It silently protects the integrity of our active ingredients and the stability of our creams while reflecting our commitment to formulations that are as kind to the planet as they are to your skin.

INCI: TETRASODIUM GLUTAMATE DIACETATEType: Chelating agent, stabilizerOrigin: A biodegradable, amino acid-based chelating agent.
