Company
Lumessentials products are made in Italy. Our production lab located in Italy’s Umbria region.
Lumessentials is a small self-funded brand. Read our story to get to know us better.
We source our ingredients from suppliers who share our commitment to human rights and ethical labor. This means we deliberately avoid sourcing from regions and supply chains implicated in oppression, land theft, or human rights violations.
Product
Yes, all Lumessentials products are dermatologically tested. Each formula underwent a controlled patch test on human skin under dermatological supervision to confirm safety for all skin types, including sensitive skin. For a deeper understanding of what dermatologically tested truly means – and how it differs from clinically tested – please visit our Glossary.
No. In the EU, it is illegal to test cosmetic products or their ingredients on animals (Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009). Therefore, any cosmetic product sold in the EU is, by definition, not tested on animals. Positioning cruelty-free as a unique claim is dishonest in our opinion, because this is a standard all manufactureres must adhere to.
Lumessentials products do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. Please keep on reading for a full picture.
The term vegan is not legally regulated in the EU. Unlike organic (which has strict EU-wide regulations for food under Regulation (EU) 2018/848), there is no harmonized legal definition for vegan in the EU cosmetics law. The term does not appear in the main cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
Since no government body certifies or regulates the term, certifications are handled by private organizations. A brand may decide to pay a third-party private organisation to issue a vegan certificaiton, based on the thorough review and verificaiton of their entire production process.
That said, a brand can also claim their products are vegan without certification, as long as the claim is truthful and not misleading. We at Lumessentials confirm that our formulas do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. We have not applied and will not apply for a certification. We intend to invest our budget directly into superior, ethically sourced ingredients and sustainable packaging.
No, we do not offer samples. For both environmental and ethical reasons, we believe single-use packaging for 1-2 applications contradicts our commitment to reducing waste. More importantly, dermatological studies and the natural skin renewal cycle of 28+ days show that key actives require consistent application over several weeks to deliver visible results. This makes a sample insufficient for a true experience.
While we prioritise naturally derived ingredients in our formulas, we avoid the vague and unregulated term “natural”. To cut through the confusion, we’ve created a clear guide explaining the precise differences between natural, naturally derived, and organic in our Glossary. Check it out to make informed consumer choices.
We cannot claim our products are “pregnancy safe” for one simple reason: cosmetic products cannot be tested on pregnant people. It is ethically impossible and legally prohibited under EU law. Therefore, definitive safety data simply does not exist – for us or any other brand.
The term “pregnancy safe” is not regulated or legally defined under EU cosmetics law (Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009). While some brands claim toxicologist approval, we take a more transparent approach: We advise you to consult your healthcare provider before using any cosmetic products during pregnancy. All our ingredients are fully disclosed in compliance with EU Regulation No 1223/2009, so you and your doctor can review them together.
Your health – and your baby’s health – deserves professional guidance, not marketing claims.
We guarantee a minimum shelf life of 22 months for unopened products under proper storage conditions. As part of EU regulations, each package features a Period After Opening (PAO) symbol – the open jar icon with a number (in our case, 6M). This indicates the number of months the product is at its best after you first open it. Our small-batch production helps ensure you receive a product with ample time for use.
