Origin: Also known as Matricaria Flower Water. Produced by steam distillation of the flowers of German chamomile (Matricaria recutita or Chamomilla recutita), capturing the water-soluble components of the plant.

What it does:

Chamomile flower water is a gentle, fragrant hydrosol valued for its time-tested soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. It serves multiple functions in a formula:

1. Primary soothing agent: Contains natural bioactive compounds like alpha-bisabolol and apigenin, which are known to help calm skin irritation, reduce redness, and provide a comforting sensation.
2. Skin toner and hydrator: Functions as a light, refreshing hydrator that can help balance the skin’s pH and prepare it to better absorb subsequent products.
3. Natural fragrance component: Imparts a mild, characteristic herbal-like scent, contributing to the product’s sensory profile.

Why we use it:

Key active: Valued for alpha-bisabolol (a soothing terpene) and antioxidant flavonoids.
