Tocopheryl Acetate

INCI: TOCOPHERYL ACETATE
Type: Antioxidant, skin conditioning
Origin: A stabilized ester form of vitamin E (tocopherol) combined with acetic acid. It is produced via chemical synthesis to create a more stable, longer-lasting derivative with enhanced formulation compatibility.
What it does:
Tocopheryl Acetate is a precursor to active vitamin E. Unlike free tocopherol, this esterified form is inherently stable and resistant to oxidation. Primary functions:
- Stabilized antioxidant: Once absorbed, skin enzymes cleave the acetate group, converting it into active tocopherol. This provides lasting antioxidant protection against free radicals generated by UV exposure and environmental pollutants.
- Skin conditioning: Helps maintain skin suppleness and softness by supporting the lipid barrier and reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
- Formula stabilizer: Its exceptional stability helps protect sensitive ingredients (like plant oils and other antioxidants) from oxidizing, extending the product’s shelf life and efficacy.
Why we use it:
We include Tocopheryl Acetate in our overnight repair cream as a time-release antioxidant. While you sleep, it converts to active vitamin E, safeguarding the intensive renewal work being performed by bakuchiol and our ceramide complex.
