Glycine

INCI: GLYCINE
Type: Amino acid, humectant, skin conditioner
Origin: The simplest and smallest amino acid. It can be derived synthetically or through fermentation from plant sugars. It is a natural component of the skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMFs)
What it does:
Glycine is a fundamental building block of healthy skin. As a primary amino acid in the stratum corneum, it plays several essential roles:
- NMF: As part of the skin’s natural moisturizing system, it helps attract and bind water to the outer layers of the epidermis, contributing to optimal hydration levels.
- Collagen support: Glycine is the most abundant amino acid in collagen, comprising approximately one-third of its structure. It provides the necessary building blocks for the skin’s own collagen synthesis and maintenance.
- Skin barrier integrity: Helps maintain the structural integrity of the skin by supporting proper cell function and cohesion.
Why we use it:
We include Glycine as an essential component of our NMF complex in our daily moisturiser. It helps restore the skin’s natural amino acid balance, supports hydration, and provides the foundational building blocks your skin needs to maintain a healthy, resilient structure.
Works in synergy with other amino acids, urea, sodium PCA, and lactic acid to create a complete, balanced moisturizing system that mirrors the skin’s own composition.
