GLYCERIN

INCI: GLYCERIN
Type: Humectant, solvent, skin conditioning, viscosity controlling
Origin: Can be vegetable-derived (via hydrolysis of plant oils like soy or palm) or synthetic. We use vegetable-derived glycerin.
What it does:
Glycerin is a triol sugar alcohol and is one of the most effective, researched, and gentle humectants in skincare. Its core function is to attract and bind water. It works by:
- Drawing moisture: Pulling water from the air (hygroscopy) and from the deeper layers of the skin into the outermost layer (stratum corneum).
- Maintaining hydration: Forming a reservoir of moisture in the skin, improving hydration, plasticity, and barrier function.
- Protecting and smoothing: Helping to protect the skin from irritants and creating a smooth, supple feel.
Why we use it:
Honestly – it is one of the BEST ingredients out there. It is the epitome of a proven, no-BS active. But the cosmetics industry won’t tell you that because there’s no hype around Glycerin, and it won’t sell on TikTok 🙂
Comedogenic rating: 0 (Non-comedogenic).
Safety and efficacy: Universally regarded as safe, non-irritating, and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. It’s a core component of the skin’s own natural moisturizing factors (NMFs).
In our formulas we use it as a foundational hydrator. It is the workhorse of moisture, ensuring our products provide immediate and lasting hydration, support a healthy skin barrier, and improve the skin’s texture and resilience.
