Ascorbyl Palmitate

INCI: ASCORBYL PALMITATE
Type: Antioxidant, skin conditioning
Origin: A fat-soluble ester of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and palmitic acid (a fatty acid derived from palm oil). Produced via chemical synthesis to create a stable, oil-soluble form of vitamin C.
What it does:
Ascorbyl Palmitate is vitamin C engineered for oil-based formulations. Unlike water-soluble vitamin C derivatives, this form dissolves in oils and integrates seamlessly into lipid-rich creams. Primary functions:
- Oil-soluble antioxidant: Protects cell membranes and lipid structures from oxidative damage. Works where water-soluble vitamin C cannot reach.
- Skin brightening: Once absorbed, enzymes cleave the palmitate bond. Releases active vitamin C to support even tone and radiance.
Why we use it:
We include Ascorbyl Palmitate in our overnight repair cream as a lipid-phase guardian. While bakuchiol supports collagen and our ceramide complex rebuilds barrier structures, Ascorbyl Palmitate protects these vulnerable lipid layers from oxidative interference.
Effective at low concentrations, and particularly effective when paired with Tocopherol. The combination regenerates each other, extending antioxidant activity.
