Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil
Sweet almond oil

INCI: PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND) OIL
Type: Vegetable oil, carrier oil
Origin: Cold-pressed from the kernels of sweet almonds (Prunus amygdalus dulcis)
What it does:
Sweet almond oil is a classic, nutrient-rich carrier oil and emollient known for its light texture and excellent skin compatibility. Contains vitamin E (tocopherols, a natural antioxidant) and vitamin A. Primary functions:
- Skin conditioning and emollience: Rich in fatty acids and vitamins, it softens, smooths, and improves skin elasticity by reinforcing the lipid barrier.
- Occlusive: Forms a light protective film to help reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), locking in moisture.
- Carrier for actives: An effective base oil that helps deliver other beneficial ingredients.
Why we use it:
We use it as a nourishing and versatile emollient. Its balanced fatty acid profile and lightweight feel make it an excellent choice for delivering moisture and lipids to the skin without a heavy greasy residue, promoting a soft, supple complexion.
Fatty acid profile: It has a high oleic acid content (approximately 60-75%) and a moderate linoleic acid content (around 15-30%). This gives it good stability and a nourishing, softening quality suitable for normal to dry skin.
Comedogenic rating: Rated 2 (low to moderately low). It is generally well-tolerated but may not be ideal for very oily or severely acne-prone skin in high concentrations.
