Sodium Glutamate

INCI: SODIUM GLUTAMATE
Type: Amino acid, skin conditioning, humectant
Origin: The sodium salt of glutamic acid, an amino acid naturally abundant in the human body and in various plant and animal proteins. Cosmetic-grade sodium glutamate is produced via fermentation of plant sugars, ensuring purity and sustainability.

What it does:

Sodium Glutamate is a skin-identical amino acid that serves as a key component of the skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMFs). Primary functions:

  1. NMF component: As a naturally occurring amino acid in healthy stratum corneum, it contributes to the skin’s inherent water-binding capacity, helping to maintain optimal hydration levels and suppleness.
  2. Humectant: Attracts and binds moisture to the skin’s surface, contributing to a smooth, plump, and comfortable feel.
  3. Skin conditioning: Supports overall skin health and texture by providing essential amino acids that the skin recognizes and utilizes.

Why we use it:

Sodium Glutamate is included as an integral component of our NMF complex in our daily moisturiser. It works in synergy with other amino acids (glycine, serine, alanine), urea, sodium PCA, and lactic acid to create a complete, balanced NMF complex that mirrors the skin’s natural composition.

Exceptionally well-tolerated, non-irritating, and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
