Propanediol

INCI: PROPANEDIOL
Type: Solvent, humectant, viscosity controlling
Origin: Can be derived from corn sugar via fermentation or produced synthetically from petrochemical sources. We use vegetable-derived propanediol.

What it does:

Propanediol is a versatile, clear and colorless liquid that serves multiple key functions in modern skincare formulations. Primary roles:

1. Solvent and carrier: An effective solvent for a wide range of both water-soluble and oil-soluble active ingredients, helping to improve their stability and delivery in a formula.
2. Penetration enhancer: Can help improve the bioavailability of other active ingredients by facilitating their delivery into the skin.
3. Humectant: Attracts and binds water to the skin, improving hydration and contributing to a smooth, moisturized feel. It is often used alongside or as an alternative to glycerin.
4. Texture modifier: Contributes to a light, non-sticky, and pleasantly smooth texture.
