Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil
Sunflower seed oil

INCI: HELIANTHUS ANNUUS SEED OIL
Type: Vegetable oil, carrier oil
Origin: Cold-pressed from the seeds of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus). A lightweight, non-fragrant oil cultivated worldwide.
What it does:
Sunflower seed oil is a lightweight, non-greasy emollient prized for its high linoleic acid content and exceptional skin compatibility. Primary functions:
- Barrier support: Rich in linoleic acid (omega-6), an essential fatty acid. Helps restore and maintain the skin’s lipid barrier. Particularly beneficial for dry or barrier-impaired skin.
- Lightweight emollient: Absorbs quickly without greasiness. Leaves skin soft, smooth, and comfortable.
- Non-comedogenic: One of the safest oils for acne-prone skin. Does not clog pores.
- Vitamin E source: Naturally contains tocopherols, providing inherent antioxidant protection and oil stability.
Why we use it:
We include sunflower seed oil in our overnight repair cream as a barrier-restoring emollient. While our ceramide complex rebuilds the “mortar” between skin cells, sunflower oil delivers the essential fatty acids that keep that structure flexible, resilient, and functioning.
Fatty acid profile: Approximately 60-70% linoleic acid, 20-30% oleic acid. This high-linoleic composition is ideal for restoring barrier function and reducing TEWL.
Comedogenic rating: 0-2 (very low to low). Widely considered safe for oily and acne-prone skin types.
