Tocopherol

INCI: TOCOPHEROL
Type: Antioxidant, skin conditioning
Origin: Naturally occurring form of Vitamin E. Can be derived from vegetable oils (soybean, sunflower, or wheat germ oil) or produced synthetically. We use vegetable-derived tocopherol.

What it does:

Tocopherol is a potent, fat-soluble antioxidant that is essential for skin health and product stability. Primary functions:

1. Antioxidant protection: Neutralizes free radicals generated by UV exposure and pollution, helping to protect skin cells and lipids (like ceramides) from oxidative damage, a key contributor to premature aging.
2. Formula stabilizer: Acts as a preservative booster by protecting oils and other sensitive ingredients in the formula from rancidity (oxidation), thereby extending the product’s shelf life.
3. Skin conditioning: Supports the skin’s natural barrier function and has soothing properties.

Why we use it:

It’s a non-negotiable for effective, stable, and skin-supportive formulations. We include it for its dual role. It protects both the integrity of our formulas from oxidation during their shelf life and, just as importantly, helps to protect your skin’s lipids from environmental oxidative stress once applied.
