Sorbitolo

INCI: SORBITOL
Type: Humectant, skin conditioning
Origin: A naturally occurring sugar alcohol found in fruits (especially apples, pears, and peaches). Cosmetic-grade sorbitol is typically derived from corn syrup or potato starch via hydrogenation.
What it does:
Sorbitol is a gentle, effective humectant belonging to the same family as glycerin. It works by attracting and binding moisture from the environment and deeper skin layers to the stratum corneum. Primary functions:
- Hydration support: Increases the water content of the skin’s outer layer, improving suppleness, softness, and a plump, healthy appearance.
- Texture modifier: Contributes to a smooth, pleasant skin feel and can help improve the spreadability and aesthetic of creams and lotions.
- Mild antimicrobial activity: At higher concentrations, it can help inhibit microbial growth, though in skincare it is primarily valued for its humectant properties.
Why we use it:
Sorbitol is included as a supporting humectant within our NMF complex. Its gentle, non-sticky hydration profile complements the more potent water-binding capacity of glycerin and sodium PCA, allowing us to achieve optimal hydration levels while maintaining the lightweight, fast-absorbing textures our products are known for.
Exceptionally well-tolerated, non-irritating, and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
