Citronellol

INCI: CITRONELLOL
Type: Perfuming, masking agent
Origin: A natural monoterpenoid found in essential oils of citronella, rose, geranium, and lemongrass. Can also be produced synthetically. Our trace presence comes exclusively from natural essential oil components in our fragrance blend.
What it does:
Citronellol is a primary fragrant compound responsible for characteristic floral, rose-like, and citrusy notes in many botanical oils. Its primary functions are:
- Perfuming: Contributes fresh, rosy, slightly citrus scent notes to fragrance compositions.
- Masking: Helps blend and soften the overall fragrance profile. Covers any undesirable base notes from raw materials.
Why we use it:
This ingredient is not added separately to our formulations. It arrives naturally as a constituent of essential oils within our pre-blended fragrance substance.
EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 requires individual disclosure of certain fragrance allergens when present above specific thresholds:
- 0.001% in leave-on products
- 0.01% in rinse-off products
Citronellol is one of the 26 established fragrance allergens regulated under Annex III of the EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009.
