Caprlylic/Capric Triglyceride

INCI: CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE
Type: Emollient, skin conditioning, viscosity modifier
Origin: A medium-chain triglyceride derived from coconut oil or palm kernel oil. It is produced by esterifying glycerin with fractionated coconut fatty acids (caprylic and capric acid), resulting in a pure, stable, and odorless oil.
What it does:
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a lightweight, non-greasy emollient oil that is considered a gold standard in cosmetic formulation for its exceptional sensory profile and compatibility. Primary functions:
- Lightweight emollient: Provides instant spreadability and a silky, dry-touch after-feel without any oily or heavy residue. It softens and smooths the skin’s surface while allowing it to breathe.
- Solvent and carrier: Excellently dissolves and stabilizes lipophilic (oil-soluble) active ingredients, ensuring uniform distribution and efficacy.
- Skin conditioning: Forms a protective film that helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) while maintaining a light, comfortable skin feel.
- Viscosity modifier: Reduces the thickness and stickiness of heavier oils and butters, improving the overall texture and application of the formula.
Why we use it:
We use Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride as a versatile, high-performance base oil across multiple products. In our daily moisturiser, it provides lightweight, rapid-absorption emollience that leaves skin silky, never greasy. In our oil-to-milk cleanser, it helps dissolve makeup and impurities while contributing to the elegant, non-tacky texture.
Oxidative stability: Fully saturated, it is extremely stable and resistant to rancidity, unlike oils high in unsaturated fats. This extends product shelf life naturally.
Comedogenic rating: Rated 0-1 (non-comedogenic to low). It is exceptionally well-tolerated by oily and acne-prone skin types.
