Glucose

INCI: GLUCOSE
Type: Umettante
Origin: A simple sugar (monosaccharide) naturally found in plants and the human body. Cosmetic-grade glucose is typically derived from corn, wheat, or other starches via enzymatic hydrolysis.

What it does:

Glucose is a fundamental biological sugar that serves as both a humectant and a building block for more complex skincare ingredients. Primary functions:

  1. Humectant hydration: Like other sugars, glucose molecules contain multiple hydroxyl groups that form hydrogen bonds with water, helping to attract and retain moisture in the stratum corneum.
  2. Skin conditioning: Helps maintain skin softness and suppleness by contributing to optimal hydration levels.
  3. Precursor molecule: Serves as a building block for more complex polysaccharides (like glycosaminoglycans) that are essential components of the skin’s extracellular matrix.

Why we use it:

Glucose is included as a supportive component of our NMF complex. While not as potent a humectant as glycerin or sodium PCA, its biological familiarity and gentle nature make it a valuable contributor to our overall hydration strategy.

As a molecule naturally present in all living cells, glucose is exceptionally well-tolerated and non-irritating. It works in synergy with other humectants (Glycerin, Sodio PCA, Urea) to create a comprehensive, multi-pathway hydration system.
