Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate
Stable vitamin C

INCI: SODIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE
Type: Stable vitamin C derivative, antioxidant, skin-brightening
Origin: A water-soluble, phosphorylated derivative of L-ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C). It is produced through chemical synthesis to create a stable, non-acidic form.
What it is and what it does:
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) is a highly stable and gentle form of Vitamin C designed to deliver antioxidant and skin-brightening benefits without the instability and potential irritation of pure L-ascorbic acid. Its primary functions are:
- Antioxidant protection: Once absorbed into the skin, enzymes convert it into active ascorbic acid, which neutralizes free radicals from UV exposure and pollution, helping to prevent oxidative damage and signs of premature aging.
- Brightening and evening skin tone: Helps inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase, which is involved in melanin production, thereby helping to fade dark spots and promote a more even, radiant complexion.
- Support for collagen synthesis: As a vitamin C source, it supports the skin’s natural collagen production, aiding in skin firmness and texture.
Why we use it:
Stability: Remains stable in water-based formulations and in the presence of air and light, unlike pure Vitamin C, which degrades rapidly. This ensures product efficacy throughout its shelf life.
We selected SAP for our daily moisturiser to provide the proven, multi-functional benefits of vitamin C –antioxidant defense, brightening, and collagen support –in a form that is stable, gentle, and compatible with a daily-use formula for all skin types.
