Type: Humectant, skin-identical moisturizing factor
Origin: The sodium salt of Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid (PCA), a natural component of the skin. It is produced commercially through the fermentation of plant sugars or synthesized from L-glutamic acid.

What it does:

Sodium PCA is a powerful, natural moisturizing factor (NMF) and one of the skin’s most effective endogenous humectants. Its primary function is to attract and retain moisture

1. Superior humectant: Known for its exceptional ability to bind water. It can hold several times its own weight in moisture, directly increasing the water content of the stratum corneum (the skin’s outer layer).
2. Skin barrier support: As a natural component of healthy skin, it helps maintain optimal hydration levels, which is essential for a supple, resilient barrier and proper skin cell function.
3. Skin conditioning: Leaves skin feeling soft, smooth, and plump.

Why we use it:

We include Sodium PCA as a cornerstone hydrator in our daily moisturiser. It works synergistically with other NMFs and humectants to deliver intensive, long-lasting hydration from within, directly supporting the skin’s natural ability to stay supple and healthy.
