Tocopheryl Acetate

INCI: TOCOPHERYL ACETATE
Type: Antioxidant, skin conditioning
Origin: A stabilized ester form of vitamin E (tocopherol) combined with acetic acid. It is produced via chemical synthesis to create a more stable, longer-lasting derivative with enhanced formulation compatibility.

What it does:

Tocopheryl Acetate is a precursor to active vitamin E. Unlike free tocopherol, this esterified form is inherently stable and resistant to oxidation. Primary functions:

  1. Stabilized antioxidant: Once absorbed, skin enzymes cleave the acetate group, converting it into active tocopherol. This provides lasting antioxidant protection against free radicals generated by UV exposure and environmental pollutants.
  2. Skin conditioning: Helps maintain skin suppleness and softness by supporting the lipid barrier and reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
  3. Formula stabilizer: Its exceptional stability helps protect sensitive ingredients (like plant oils and other antioxidants) from oxidizing, extending the product’s shelf life and efficacy.

Why we use it:

We include Tocopheryl Acetate in our overnight repair cream as a time-release antioxidant. While you sleep, it converts to active vitamin E, safeguarding the intensive renewal work being performed by bakuchiol and our ceramide complex.
