Sucrose Laurate

INCI: SUCROSE LAURATE
Type: Non-ionic surfactant (emulsifying + cleansing), emollient
Origin: Produced by esterifying sucrose (table sugar) with lauric acid (a fatty acid typically derived from coconut or palm kernel oil). It is part of a class known as sugar surfactants.

What it does:

Sucrose Laurate is a gentle, skin-compatible emulsifier and cleansing agent. It is prized for its mildness and biodegradability. Its primary functions are:

  1. Emulsification: Helps blend oil and water phases into a stable, uniform emulsion (e.g., in lotions and milky cleansers), preventing separation.
  2. Gentle cleansing: Provides mild surfactant properties, helping to lift away impurities with minimal disruption to the skin’s natural lipid barrier.
  3. Texture enhancement: Contributes to a pleasant, creamy product feel.

Why we use it:

We specifically selected it for our oil-to-milk cleanser to create its signature transformation from a gel to a milky emulsion upon contact with water. It allows us to achieve effective cleansing and elegant texture without relying on harsher traditional surfactants, ensuring a respectful, non-stripping cleanse that maintains the skin’s balance.

Mildness: Known for being exceptionally mild and non-irritating, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

Biodegradability: Derived from renewable resources and readily biodegradable.
