Hydroxycitronellal

INCI: HYDROXYCITRONELLAL
Type: Perfuming agent
Origin: A synthetic fragrance compound with a sweet, floral scent reminiscent of lily of the valley, linden blossom, or lilac. It can be produced synthetically or derived from certain essential oils via hydration of citronellal.
What it does:
Hydroxycitronellal is a well-known fragrance allergen regulated by the EU. It is valued for its pleasant floral scent profile. Primary function:
- Perfuming: Contributes a strong, sweet, floral scent (like lily of the valley, linden) to fragrance compositions .
Why we use it:
This ingredient is not added separately to our formulations. It arrives naturally as a constituent of essential oils within our pre-blended fragrance substance.
EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 requires individual disclosure of certain fragrance allergens when present above specific thresholds:
- 0.001% in leave-on products
- 0.01% in rinse-off products
Geraniol is one of the 26 established fragrance allergens regulated under Annex III of the EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. Present at trace levels – only what naturally occurs within our selected fragrance composition, well within EU safety limits.
